Height estimation
Video and still images to overlay a suspect on a height board.
Forensic height estimation from video is the process ofusing video footage and reconstruction work to estimate the height of a person whose height data is unknown. This technique can be used in criminal investigations to help identify suspects and victims.
To estimate the height of a person from video footage, a variety of techniques can be employed. One method is to use the known height of an object in the frame, such as a door frame or a car, and compare it to the height of the person in question. By measuring the relative size of the person and the object, we can make an educated estimate of the person's height.
Another technique involves using a height board on site to create footage from the same camera system for later comparison. Height estimation from video can have limitations, but it can also provide valuable information to investigators such as approximate height, minimum height or maximum height to exclude or include the person from a list of suspects.
